Bogg Bag vs. Owala, Away, Yeti: Which Beach Tote Wins?

Summer beachgoers have plenty of options beyond the original Bogg Bag, and NBC Select editors set out to compare the field. Testers, including senior editor Shalwah Evans, evaluated the Bogg Bag alongside competitors from Owala, Simple Modern and Away, plus past experience with Yeti's Camino 35 Carryall Tote, judging each on functionality, materials, durability and accessories.

Evans named Owala's Sun-Day Tote the best all-purpose option. She tested the non-collapsible version for several weeks at the beach, a restaurant and a bar, praising its water- and sand-resistant material, reinforced straps that wrap around the entire base, and interior privacy pockets for valuables. The bag held a beach blanket, towel, speaker, bottles and food containers, though its wide-open top means contents are visible to onlookers. A collapsible version is also available, which Evans said solves storage issues the Bogg Bag doesn't address.

The Original Bogg Bag earned recognition as the best customizable tote. Evans said it comfortably carried lightweight beach essentials for two people and was easy to clean — she simply shakes it out and wipes it down after each use. It also supports attachable accessories like cup holders and trays, sold separately. Senior production manager Becca Delman, a longtime Bogg Bag owner, said it easily holds beach gear for a family of five along with food and drinks. Both testers agreed the bag becomes heavy and bulky when loaded with larger items.

Simple Modern's Getaway Bag was rated the best budget option. It shares a similar profile to the Bogg Bag but has a more basket-like shape, and comes in several colors and three sizes — medium, large and extra large.

The testing is part of NBC Select's ongoing product comparisons, aimed at helping shoppers choose gear suited to their specific needs, whether for daily errands, beach trips or family outings.
