Witt Jr. Homers, Scores 4 Times as Royals Beat A's 9-5

Bobby Witt Jr. hit a two-run homer, added an RBI double and scored four runs as the Kansas City Royals beat the Athletics 9-5 on Monday night.

Witt's 15th home run of the season traveled an estimated 390 feet to left-center field, giving Kansas City a 5-1 lead. He later added an RBI double in the eighth inning.

The Royals had fallen behind early when Jeff McNeil homered on the first pitch of the game. Kansas City answered with an RBI single from Maikel Garcia and a two-run single from Salvador Perez to make it 3-1.

Jac Caglinone drove in two runs with singles in the sixth and eighth innings, the latter making it 9-4. Kyle Isbel added an RBI single in the third.

Michael Wacha (6-8) started for Kansas City and pitched five innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out three. Steven Cruz earned his fourth save of the season after reliever Lucas Erceg failed to record an out and loaded the bases.

For Oakland, Tommy White and Brian Serven both homered in the fifth inning. White's solo shot traveled 401 feet to left-center, and Serven's two-run homer cut the deficit to 6-4.

Mason Barnett (1-3) took the loss for the Athletics, giving up seven hits and six earned runs while walking four and striking out two over 2 2/3 innings.

Right-hander Jack Perkins (2-9, 7.27 ERA) is scheduled to start Tuesday for Oakland against Kansas City left-hander Daniel Lynch IV (4-4, 2.88).
